BacklinkGenie MCP server

Remote Model Context Protocol server for BacklinkGenie, a link-building outreach agent. It finds posts in your niche where your product belongs, drafts pitches to the editors, and tracks the links you win. The MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, n8n or any other MCP client work that queue: review and approve pitches, read and answer editor replies, import posts you want to be in, and check which links are live.

This repository holds the public docs and the registry manifest. The server itself is hosted; there is nothing to install or run locally.

Authentication

Two ways to connect:

• Sign-in (OAuth 2.1). Claude and ChatGPT connectors only need the URL. They open a BacklinkGenie sign-in window and you approve access. The server publishes its metadata at https://app.backlinkgenie.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource (authorization code + PKCE, dynamic client registration).
• API key. Clients that don't do sign-in send a key as a Bearer token: Authorization: Bearer bg_live_.... Create keys in BacklinkGenie under Settings → MCP. Keys start with bg_live_, are shown once, are per person, and can be revoked.

MCP access is included on the Growth and Agency plans.

Tools

22 tools. Read-only tools are safe to run any time. Tools marked "changes things" send, approve, edit or create something, and the server tells the assistant to confirm with you first.

The server also exposes four prompts: daily_review (go through today's pitches and replies one at a time), reply_triage (draft answers to editor replies and record won links), weekly_report (pitches, replies, links won and lost, Domain Rating change) and pitch_my_list (hand the agent a list of post URLs).

Safety rules

• Nothing is approved or sent until you confirm the exact email.
• Edits and replies pass the quality check: recipient lock, links only to your site, no paid-link offers.
• Sending stays inside each mailbox's daily limit and the bounce and opt-out rules.

Setup

Replace bg_live_your_key with a key from Settings → MCP.

Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)

1. Go to Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
2. Name it BacklinkGenie and paste https://app.backlinkgenie.com/mcp.
3. Claude opens a BacklinkGenie sign-in window. Approve access.

No API key needed.

ChatGPT

1. Open Settings → Connectors (custom connectors may need developer mode turned on, depending on your plan) and add a connector.
2. Name it BacklinkGenie and paste https://app.backlinkgenie.com/mcp.
3. Sign in to BacklinkGenie and allow access, then pick BacklinkGenie from the tools menu in a chat.
